Somewhere Between Good and Great, in Goa
By Gauri Naik
Good is the enemy of great. Jim Collins
Some journeys are measured by the places we reach. Others by the people we become along the way.
Every year, Atomium Labs steps away from the familiar rhythms of agency life for a few days. The deadlines wait while the conversations wander. Somewhere between the change of scenery and the time spent together, we find new perspectives on our work, our people, and the year ahead.
Pondicherry gave us FLOW in 2025. A year later, some 450 kilometres away from our desks, Goa brought a different question into focus: what does it take to go from good to great?

Between beach explorations, local markets, sights, and the unmistakable pleasure of discovering a place through its food, we made the most of our time together. Then came the Dumb Charades rounds, where acting skills were tested and guesses grew questionable, and the Shayari Sessions, where a few lines expressed what an entire conversation couldn't.
Experiences became anecdotes, anecdotes became inside jokes, and somewhere along the way, we got to know each other a little beyond our roles & routines.
Four days of riotous fun, laughter, and learning. A reminder that a team is more than the sum of its deliverables.

Every offsite, our Founder and Chief Vision Officer, Pratyush Sinha, sets direction for the road ahead through a theme each year, giving us a shared starting point. This year, the theme is
The Journey from Good to Great
The distinction between good and great can seem like a small one, but the impact lives in the details, in the habits we settle into, the standards we hold ourselves to, and the questions we keep asking of ourselves and our work. It’s also about the choices we make along the way, and how those choices shape Atomium Labs, one day at a time.
Good work gets the job done. Great work asks more of us.
At the heart of the conversation were (the right) people, and what it takes for them to become a team that does great work together. We spoke about honesty, integrity, transparency and teamwork, not presented as ideals to admire from a distance, but as principles to practise in the everyday. In the way we give feedback, own up to a mistake, make room for a better idea, or admit we need help.
The everyday stuff, but often the stuff that makes the biggest difference.

We also revisited the values that make up our cultural framework, summed up in four words: ROFL, or Respect, Ownership, Fear No Failure and Learning. Each speaks to a different part of how we work and grow together.
Respect is being able to disagree without making it personal. Ownership is seeing something through, rather than stopping at pointing out what needs fixing. Fear No Failure is having the room to try, get something wrong and figure out what comes next. Learning is taking those experiences with us, so the next time around, we know a little more than we did before.
We spoke about the difference between being busy and being effective, between chasing a quick win and considering its longer-term consequences. The discussion was a reminder that progress rarely comes from one grand gesture. More often, it comes from small decisions made with consistency, care and purpose.
Because in the end, it all comes back to finding a way to do it better.
Of course, no Atomium Labs offsite would be complete without a healthy dose of creative chaos. The Mad Ad competition brought teams together to make a case for concepts outside the ordinary and experiment with storytelling through performances, surprises, and plenty of creative risks.
Like everything else, an offsite, however purposeful & fun, also comes to an end. Bags get packed, journeys home begin, and the inbox finds its way back into the picture. But the point of stepping away is to return with something that stays.
Goa gave us the memories of the beaches, the food, the markets, the laughter, the shayari, the games, and the conversations that made four days feel like their own little world.
It also gave us a direction to go forward in: the journey from good to great.
So, the journey from these realisations & learning continues in everyday work: the brief that needs a sharper thought, the deadline that calls for better coordination, the feedback that helps us improve, and the opportunity to do better today than yesterday.
Good is where we begin. Great is what we keep moving towards.
Here’s to the journey!
